A lot of people write in to us asking about the Amazon ASIN. What is it, and how is it used? Well, if you want to track a book or find out information on Amazon products, you'll probably need to know...

The Amazon sales rank can be a fascinating trove of valuable information - practically indispensable. We'll admit though, checking the sales rank by yourself from time to time, while interesting, is not that helpful. But don't despair...

Anyone who has written a book (or a song, or made a product of some sort) will have taken a moment here and there (and if we're honest, a little more than that) to search their Amazon product page in order to check the latest Amazon sales rank. And why not? After all, if the sales rank has halved overnight then that's a good indication that a few more dollars are winging their way to you right now.

Tracking your sales rank can do a lot more for you than you think! Well, that and the fact that it helps prevent you from obsessively checking your sales rank every ten minutes...

So you've written a book and had it published. Maybe your company has just released a new software package. How about stylish accessories? Whatever you've done, if you are selling something on Amazon then there are a number of reasons to track Amazon sales ranks with RankTracer:

Amazon don't release their individual sales figures to anyone - although it is possible to obtain a general PoS number from Nielsen bookscan. But that doesn't mean you can't get a really good idea of what you are selling on a particular Amazon locale.

Take a look around the net and see what people say about the Amazon sales rank. If you look at a hundred different pages, you'll probably get a hundred and five different opinions (some people disagree with themselves).

I'd like to quickly run through the huge changes that RankTracer has undergone recently.

What's changed

Our service has been expanded to include special book and product reviews. In order to offer the best search engine, social and SEO enhanced review service possible, we had to redesign the homepage to show the latest reviews on our high traffic homepage. Newcomers now have the option of going to the analytics homepage (http://www.ranktracer.com/amazon-sales-tracking.php) or adding a new review (http://www.ranktracer.com/content/book-product-review).

Entrepreneurs, startups and small businesses clearly have money to spend when it comes to educating themselves with content and knowledge from leading entrepreneurs like Eric Ries, Crystal Paine and Napoleon Hill.

In my previous article in which I compared the leading titles by marketing gurus, entitled "InfoGraphic: Guy Kawasaki's "Art of the start" outsells other titles by marketing gurus", Guy's book outsold its competitors three to one over a five day period, selling an average of about 60 copies a day. The story is different when it comes to starting and running a business.

I thought I would compare the online sales of the marketing books written by a random selection of leading marketing gurus to see how they stack up against each other.

Now I should point out that making too direct comparisons on the relative popularity of each book is not quite fair because the books were published at different times, and are different sizes and prices.

Do a search on Amazon for books on advertising, and it's no surprise that Malcolm Gladwell's "The Tipping Point" shows up first. It's been a smash hit for quite some time now - around ten years and counting.

The premise that a well considered and precise action can induce desirable effects far in excess of the initial "push" is clearly an infectious one in itself.

Ok, so the book is a self-fulfilling prophecy. Neat. But I wanted to see exactly how it stacks up against other top advertising books.
